The campus is packed with places to eat and drink and caters for a diverse range of dietary requirements. There is also access to convenience stores, where you can pick up your groceries and essentials.

The university is situated just outside York city centre, and everything is within walking or cycling distance. You can also use the fast and frequent bus service that runs between both parts of campus and on to the city centre and station, or hire an e-scooter or e-bike to whisk you into town. The university’s idyllic parkland campus is within walking distance of the bustling city centre, which means you can enjoy the best of both worlds. York*s central location is perfect for exploring other UK and European cities. London is only two hours away by train and you can reach Edinburgh in two and a half hours. The beautiful Yorkshire countryside and coastline are also on York’s doorstep. The university’s Students’ Union often arranges trips to cities, national parks and the coast.

Student Support at the University of York

Moving to another country can be daunting, but the University of York offers plenty of help. From mental health support to financial advice, the university’s network of support services is there to help students get the best out of their time at university.

The university has dedicated international student support to provide vital help to students coming from overseas. This ranges from advice on visas and healthcare to opening bank accounts and organising travel. Additionally, there is a free airport collection service, facilities to practice faith and more.

There’s a healthcare centre close to campus which offers GP appointments and a repeat prescription service. York’s Open Door team, consisting of mental health practitioners and student wellbeing officers, provide support to registered students experiencing psychological or mental health difficulties. They can work with the NHS, the GP or other services if students are receiving therapeutic or medical help for a long-term condition.

Each student is designated an academic supervisor who can be contacted for support. Supervisors advise students on their academic progress and can help with personal development. Students can also access free skills advice through the Academic Skills Community which provides online resources, workshops and 1:1 support in areas like English and Maths.

Help with personal matters, academic issues and the transition to university life is also available from staff within the colleges, the Student Hub and the Students’ Union Advice and Support Centre.

All accommodation at the University of York is located on or very near campus and is centred around eleven colleges. Each college has a welcoming, supportive community so that you will soon feel at home.

The University of York is home to a range of facilities to help students unwind including their very own student-run theatre and cinema, while its free open lectures and exhibitions also offer you an opportunity to hear about research.

The university’s main campus library holds more than one million print books, as well as printed and digital journals. It also offers a range of study areas from silent study zones to innovative thinking spaces. There’s also access to several specialist libraries on campus and in the city centre.

Sports & Clubs at the University of York
